Inis Mor, the largest and most popular island of the Aran Islands can be accessed by passenger ferry or by airplane. The passenger ferries depart from Galway City, Rossaveel and Doolin. The airplane to Inis Mor departs from Connemara Regional Airport. You cannot take your car on the ferry to the Island.

Ferry from Galway City – Inis Mor

The ferry from Galway City to Inis Mor via the Cliffs of Moher operates on a seasonal basis from April to September. The ferry departs from the Galway City Docks. Parking is available at Galway docks 24 hours a day.

The ferry trip from Galway City to Inis Mor via the cliffs of Moher day trip was awarded “Best Irish Experience” in 2021. The duration of the crossing from Galway City Dock to Inis Mor is approximately 90mins. There are plenty of things to do on Inis Mor, upon arrival on passengers have 4.5hrs to cycle and explore the islands famous forts, cliffs, shops and beaches before the ferry departs on its return journey. Some passengers prefer to explore all of what Inis Mor has to offer and stay overnight and enjoy the islands rich nightlife, culture and restaurants.

Ferry from Rossaveel – Inis Mor

The ferry terminal to Inis Mor is located in Rossaveel, a small town located 37km west of Galway City Center. The ferry terminal is accessed by both shuttle bus from Galway City and by car. Parking is available at Rossaveel port 24 hours a day. You cannot take your car on the ferry to the Island.

Aran Island Ferries sail from Rossaveel to Inis Mor year-round. The ferry from Rossaveel to Inis Mor is the shortest crossing and takes approximately 40mins from the ferry terminal in Rossaveel to Kilronan Pier on Inis Mor. There are plenty on things to do on Inis Mor, depending on your arrival time visitors have anywhere from 4-7hrs to cycle and explore the islands famous forts, cliffs, shops and beaches before the ferry departs on its return journey. Some passengers prefer to explore all of what Inis Mor has to offer and stay overnight and enjoy the islands rich nightlife, culture and restaurants.

Shuttle Bus

Aran Island Ferries offer a shuttle bus from Galway City to the ferry terminal in Rossaveel for all of their scheduled departures. The shuttle bus departs from Queen St. located just off Eyre Square and takes approximately one hour to the ferry terminal in Rossaveel. If you are not taking the shuttle bus, you must make your own transport arrangements to the ferry terminal in Rossaveel. See shuttle bus costs below:

Doolin Ferry to Inis Mor

The passenger ferry from Doolin operates on a seasonal basis (April – October). The ferry terminal to Inis Mor is located at Doolin pier, just outside the village. The sailing time is approximately 35mins. each way to Inis Mor. There are plenty of things to do on Inis Mor, depending on your arrival time visitors have anywhere from 4-7hrs to cycle and explore the islands famous forts, cliffs, shops and beaches before the ferry departs on its return journey. Some passengers prefer to explore all of what Inis Mor has to offer and stay overnight and enjoy the islands rich nightlife, culture and restaurants.

Please note the 13:00 Doolin departure makes a stop on Inis Oirr before continuing on to Inis Mor at 15:00.

The Connemara Regional Airport is located in Inveran, a small village 30km west of Galway City. The airport is accessed by both shuttle bus from Galway City and by car. Parking is available at the airport 24 hours a day.
